Maldives 2011

Returning to the Maldives is always something to set the heart racing and this years trip was no exception. Jim Ridings, Lynda Westall, Margaret Fry, Alan Hatch and Charlotte Zanre (ex Harlow, now Dundee SAC) left Heathrow on 10 April for 2 weeks aboard Sea Queen to dive the most Northerly of the Maldives atolls. To reach the far north of the Maldives required three flights; Londo to Dubai, Dubai to Male and Male to Hanimadhoo.
What a set of dives we had. A total of 36 dives in 11 action packed days; water was 30C and vis in excess of 30m. With ~150 miles of sailing, often accompanied by dolphins,a summary of our dives is shown below:

All the new friends we met of the trip were great fun with Michael, a 75 year old, ex RAF pilot, the star. Michael never missed a single dive, zipping around in the blue with his video camera. An example to everyone in enjoying life and he had so many stories to tell between dives as we relaxed. Three island tours (all local with no tourists) were fantastic and on one we bought a 13Kg jack fish for 13 US dollars. Soon we were tucking into the best suchimi ever; it would have cost a fortune in a Japanese restaurant.
The worst moment of the holiday came when Alan Hatch slipped, getting off the boat, and fell between the Sea Queen and the doney. Only the fact that it was calm prevented him from being killed but the fall had taken its toll with his ribs seriously bruised and lacerations to his arms and legs. Things got worse when he got home and he has been off work while he recovered.
A great time but I am OC’d out now and cant wait to get back to CCR
Jim
