Club Dive - Weymouth May 2011
Weymouth May 2011
A great weekend's diving was had in Weymouth on 14 and 15 May. A 12:30 ropes off on Saturday allowed for a lie in and some retail therapy. Weather was fine but a liitle blustry as we headed out of the harbour towards the wreck of the Aeolonian Sky. Details of the wreck of the Aelonian Sky can be found here -

Vis was 5-6m and the shot was in the stern half of the ship. Lynda and I reached the stern with the railings visible, sillouetted against the blue background. The name of the ship could clearly be seen on the stern but the presence of a stern anchor rather confused me.. Masts and winches were strewn across the seabed as we swam with the wreck towering over us. A maximum depth of 32m and 45 mins in the water was a very satisfying dive. In addition to 7 members of HSAC we were joined by Godfrey Priest, an old friend from near Bath. Godfrey dived with Kelvin but he returned rather wet as part of the wreckage had punctured his suit. Lorna and Alan, Malcolm and nthony made up the rest of the party. Second dive was a drift alongside Portland Bill and allhad a great day. On Sunday we dived the wreck of the M2, submarine, an old friend to many of us but this was one of the best dives I have had on this wreck with good vis and plenty of fish. Lynda, Kelvin and I covered the whole wreck and it will stay in my memory. Details of the M2 can be found here -

Second dive was on Lulworth Banks allowing dinner to be harvested with scallops and crabs making up the catch. A nice quote from Lorna summed up the weekend. \\\\\\"Great wrecks and fresh seafood for dinner\\\\\\". Its agreat pity so few club members took the opportunity
